A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a critical document required to file taxes and get tax refunds. It also serves as an identity proof of an individual or a company. Thus, any incorrect information on the PAN card could lead to problems.
You can apply for PAN card correction online or offline when there is any mistake or change in your PAN card details, such as name, date of birth, photo, signature, father’s name, Aadhaar, gender, mobile number, email ID or address. However, you can apply for correction only when the following conditions are met:
Follow the below steps to apply for a change of PAN card details online:
Step 1: Visit the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL website.
Step 2: Select the ‘Change/Correction in PAN card details’.
Step 3: Enter the ‘PAN Card’ number, fill in the details, and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 4: Your request will be registered, and you will receive a token or reference number on your email ID
Step 5: Select the options you want to update (name, father’s name, date of birth, gender, address, contact information).
Step 6: Enter the updated details and other required details and upload the documents.
Step 7: Pay the required fees and submit the application.
Step 8: You will receive an acknowledgement number. Note down the number since it will be required to check the status of the correction application.
You can also get the details changed/corrected in your PAN card offline. Follow the below steps to apply for PAN card correction offline:
Step 1: Download the ‘Request For New PAN Card Or/ And Changes Or Correction in PAN Data’ application from.
Step 2: Fill in the details in the application.
Step 3: Attach your signature and photograph to the application.
Step 4: Submit the form and the required documents to the nearest PAN centre.
Step 5: Pay the fees for PAN card update/correction.
Step 6: You will get the acknowledgement number from which you can track the status of your PAN card update application.
Here are the documents required for PAN card correction:
1. Copy of PAN card: You will need a photocopy of your existing PAN card.
2. Identity proof: Provide a copy of any of the following identity documents:
Additionally, if you need to correct your date of birth, make sure to provide proof of your correct date of birth.
To rectify mistakes on your PAN card, visit the official NSDL or UTIITSL website, fill out the correction form, and submit the required documents.
The processing time for PAN card corrections typically ranges from 15 to 45 days after submitting the corrected application. Keep in mind that this timeframe may vary based on the efficiency of the processing centre.
